McMINNVILLE, Ore. – North Central hardly seemed to break a sweat while ripping Linfield for 19 goals in a women’s lacrosse match Monday afternoon at the Linfield lacrosse field. The Cardinals easily defeated the Wildcats by a score of 19-3.

North Central of Illinois improves to 2-0 on the year as Linfield, which experienced its first win less than 24 hours ago, falls to 1-3 on the season.

The Cardinals struck first on a Danielle Fiala goal just 13 seconds into the game, and scored the next four to take an early 5-0 lead.

The ‘Cats got on the board when Anna Gorciak scored on a free position shot with 17:43 left on the clock. But North Central would score the next 13 goals, stretching over both periods, to blow the game open.

The Cardinals made it look easy, using their great speed to slice through the Wildcat defenders early and often.

The 'Cats fared better after the break. After giving up 13 goals in the first half, Linfield defense held North Central’s offense in check during the second period, allowing only six scores. But the ‘Cats could not find enough offense to make it a close game.

After Gorciak’s goal in the first half, Linfield put up just two more points. Mariah Jones and Brittani Drost (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) supplied the only other offense for the ‘Cats with one goal each.

Mallory Bahr scored a game-high five goals and added an assist to lead the Cardinals. Fiala had four scores and Jacqueline Morgan provided three more.

North Central netminder Sarah Hon made seven saves to get the win over counterpart Hayley Steele.

NEXT: The Wildcats host their third home match in as many days Tuesday as Plymouth State of New Hampshire comes to town for a 1 p.m. contest.
