PORTLAND, Ore. – The Linfield track and field program began its spring break with a pair of top-4 team finishes at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open. The two-day event concluded Saturday.
Alex Van Slyke was the sole event winner for Linfield, taking first in the 3000 steeplechase (9:55.95). Teammate Jason Hight (Sr., Orange, Calif.) was second in a time of 10:41.34.
Other top finishers for the men included Barrett Zetterberg, who was second in the 400 hurdles (59.09), and Michael Moreland, the runner-up in the high jump (6-6/1.98m). Moreland’s mark is tied for highest in the Northwest Conference so far this season.
As a team, the Linfield men placed second out of 19 teams, compiling a team score of 84.5 points. Pacific Lutheran was the meet champion, scoring 143 points.
On the women’s side, five Wildcats registered top-3 performances.
Anna LaBeaume (Sr., Sequim, Wash.) was the top finisher, taking second in the hammer throw. Her heave of 145-8 (44.4m) is the second-farthest toss by a NWC competitor this season.
Placing third in the long jump was Katey Barger with a leap of 15-0 (4.57m).
On the track, Morgan Cohen, Shanna Peaden and Jill Boroughs all finished third in their respective events. Cohen posted a season-best time of 13.07 in the 100 dash. Peaden recorded her fastest time yet this season in the 1500 (4:54.90). Boroughs, competing in the 3000 steeplechase for the first time this season, was third with a time of 12:28.18.
The Linfield squad placed fourth out of 13 teams with 89 points. Pacific Lutheran won the team title, scoring 141 points. Lewis & Clark (103) and Clackamas Community College (95) were second and third, respectively.
NEXT: The ‘Cats host the Linfield Multi-Events meet, a two-day competition that takes place Monday and Tuesday at Maxwell Field.
