McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Northwest Conference-leading scorer and Linfield guard Gretchen Owens has been selected as the NWC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league’s sports information directors Tuesday.
Owens averaged a double-double over two games last week, tallying 23.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. She scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the Wildcats’ upset over Puget Sound, helping Linfield earn its first victory at Memorial Fieldhouse since 2000. She followed up that performance with a 24-point effort in a win against Pacific.
For the week, she shot 19-of-34 (.559) from the floor, including 7-of-14 (.500) from 3-point range, and also distributed 2.5 assists per game.
Owens currently leads the league in scoring at 19.9 points per game. She also ranks in the top five in five other statistical categories, including field goal percentage (.499), free throw percentage (.803), 3-point field goal percentage (.394), defensive rebounds (5.73) and minutes played (35.23).
This is Owen’s second student-athlete of the week honor of the season, and is also the second of her career.
NEXT: Owens and the Wildcats play in their final home contest Friday night against George Fox. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. The game features a coin-drive fundraiser to benefit the Friday Family Food program, sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
