Boxers take two from Wildcats

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Led by double-event winners Michael Hargitt, Dylan Cramer, Bonnie Carroll and Allison Clark, Pacific University captured both sides of a Northwest Conference dual meet over the home-standing Linfield Wildcats Saturday inside the Linfield Aquatics Center.

The Pacific men topped their Linfield counterparts by a score of 121-64 while the Boxer women prevailed by a count of 129-72.

Pacific swept the four relay events to begin and end the dual meet and claimed first-place finishes in 13 of 18 individual events.

Megan Sandall (Sr., Bellevue, Wash.) paced the Linfield women with matching victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Sandall clocked 2:04.41 to edge runner-up Laura Ross of Pacific by just over a second in the 200. Ross finished in 2:05.68. The results were the same in the 500-yard race, with Sandall (5:32.73) topping Ross (5:36.14) by nearly four seconds.

Lee Rivers (Jr., Renton, Wash.) was a double-event winner for the Linfield men. Rivers triumphed in the 50 freestyle (22.93) and won the 100 freestyle (50.02).

Miles Phillips (Sr., Richland, Wash.) scored a decisive win in the men’s 200 butterfly (2:04.83), besting Pacific rival Michael Hargitt (2:08.13). Phillips was also runner-up in the 500 freestyle (5:08.80).

Hargitt was victorious in the 200 IM (2:02.77) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.22).

For the Pacific women, Allison Clark won the 200 individual medley (2:17.85) ahead of Linfield’s Rhiannon Ladwig (Sr., Boise, Idaho) (2:29.92). Wildcats senior Evi Miyasaki was third in 2:40.29.

Ross won the 200 butterfly in 2:19.21, nipping Linfield’s Natalie Groat, who reached the wall in 2:22.09. Also winning individual events for Pacific were Bonnie Carroll in the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.80), Cherice Cochrane in the 50 freestyle (26.10) and Keely Craig in the 100 freestyle (58.28).

The Boxer men were fueled by first-place finishes from Dylan Cramer in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Michael Simmonds in the 1,00 freestyle (10:45.46), and Joel Cowley in the 200 backstroke (2:04.15).

COMING UP: Linfield hosts its final meet of the season next Saturday when the Willamette Bearcats visit the Linfield Aquatics Center at 1 p.m.
