PORTLAND, Ore. - P.J. Taylor and Kelly Edwards combined for 44 points and Lewis & Clark committed just four turnovers on its way to a 74-66 win over Linfield Tuesday night at the Pamplin Sports Complex.
With the win the Pioneers run their record to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Northwest Conference play. The Wildcats slide to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the NWC.
Lewis & Clark hit the ground running, building a 19-9 lead by the 12:05 mark of the first half. A Marcus Wells layup pushed the lead out to 23-9, the biggest advantage the Pioneers would have all evening.
Outscoring the Pioneers by nine over the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Wildcats managed to head into the half only down 36-31. Lewis & Clark was unable to buy a basket in the first half, shooting just 32.4 percent from the floor, including a 3-of-19 output from three-point range.
The Pioneers stayed in the game with great shooting at the free throw line, as they knocked down all 11 of their attempts during the first half.
Coming out of halftime the Wildcats rallied to tie the game at 41 with 16:48 remaining. K.C. Wiser, who missed the previous two games due to injury, tied the score with two of his game-high 24 points.
After seeing a double-digit lead evaporate, the Pioneers rallied for six-straight points. Wells answered the bell with two clutch 3-pointers, pushing the lead out to six. Hanging on to a 51-45 lead with 12:11 minutes remaining, the Pioneers took control of the game with a 6-0 spurt over the next two minutes.
After a 3-pointer from Taylor, Edwards capped off the run with a three-point play. The Wildcats would get no closer than five the rest of the way.
Linfield struggled throughout the night to take care of the ball and make an outside shot. The Wildcats went just 1-of-15 from beyond the arc, while committing 15 turnovers.
The ‘Cats controlled the glass, outrebounding the Pioneers 46-31.
