The Pioneers improve to 7-12 overall and 6-5 in Northwest Conference action. With their second loss in three games, the Wildcats slide to 10-9 on the season and 8-3 in the NWC.
Kelly Edwards led the Pioneers with a game-high 20 points. Josh Kollasch scored 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while James Hollins and Kyle Meeuwsen chipped in with 14 points apiece.
With the score tied at 43 with 14:32 left to play, Lewis & Clark blew the doors down. The Pioneers outscored the Wildcats 23-7 over the next 8 1/2 minutes.
After two free throws by
Drew Schroeder (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) cut the Lewis & Clark lead to 51-47, the Pioneers rolled off 13 straight points.
Lewis & Clark broke down Linfield’s defense with aggressive drives to the basket. A three-point play from Edwards put the Pioneers up 60-47 at the 9:37 mark. After another score from Edwards, Meeuwsen threw down the exclamation point with a thunderous dunk.
Meeuwsen’s basket staked the Pioneers to a 64-47 advantage with just 6:53 remaining. The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to 10 once more but would get no closer.
After shooting just 42.4 percent in the first half, Lewis & Clark made 14-of-26 shots for a 53.8 percent clip in the second half.
The ‘Cats went cold in the second half, shooting 38.9 percent. The Pioneers pressured the Wildcats into 15 turnovers, converting 23 points in those extra possessions.
Linfield shot just 46.7 percent from the free throw line.
Cody Tesoro (Sr., Kahului, Hawaii) paced the ‘Cats with 19 points and
Kris Rainwater (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) helped out with 12.
In the first half, the Wildcats came out of the gates sharp. Knocking down 9-of-15 shots to open the night, Linfield built an early 22-15 advantage.
After Lewis & Clark momentarily grabbed the lead, K.C.Wiser buried a jumper to tie the game at 27 with 2:05 to left in the first half.
The Pioneers answered back by blitzing the ‘Cats over the final two minutes, scoring seven-straight points to close the frame. Kollasch scored five of the seven points, including a 3-pointer in the closing seconds. Kollasch dribbled off a screen at the top of the circle before pulling up and sinking a 3-pointer.
The shot gave Lewis & Clark a 34-27 advantage heading into the break. The Pioneers collected 14 points off 11 Wildcat turnovers during the half.
