For the second consecutive year, Linfield College will serve as one of eight regional tournament hosts for the 2010 NCAA Division III playoffs.

The multi-team regional tournament will take place May 19-23 at Linfield’s Roy Helser Field. The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Finals, May 28-June 1, in Appleton, Wis.

“We are honored to be able to host the regional and showcase the college and our fine facilities,” said Linfield director of athletics Scott Carnahan. “We received an unanimous vote of confidence from the teams and coaches who participated in last year’s regional. Everyone said we did a great job of hosting and we plan to provide the same level of service and amenities as last year.”

The regional tournament will be staged in McMinnville regardless of whether Linfield’s baseball team is competing. The Wildcats still must earn an invitation, either through the automatic berth awarded to the Northwest Conference champion, or as one of several at-large representatives. Last spring, George Fox earned the automatic berth from the NWC and was the lone qualifier from the NWC. Runner-up Pacific Lutheran and Linfield, which placed third in the NWC, did not receive at-large berths into the NCAA playoffs.

Two seasons ago, it was Linfield that won the NWC title and competed in the Central Regional tournament in Moline, Ill. The Wildcats advanced to the eight-team NCAA Finals in Appleton, Wis., winning two of four games there to place fifth nationally.
