McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Winning both sides of a Northwest Conference dual meet over Pacific University, the Linfield swimming team entered the winter break on a positive note.

The Linfield men bettered their Pacific counterparts 128-54 at the same time the Wildcat women were victorious over the Boxers 116-85.

On the women’s side, Linfield freshman Katie Main (Fr., Mill Creek, Wash.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle by nearly a full minute, clocking 11 minutes, 25.26 seconds.

Steph Longmate was the top finisher in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

Megan Sandall (Fr., Bellevue, Wash.) continued her strong start to the season with a victory in the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Rhiannon Ladwig (Fr., Boise, Idaho) placed second in the 100 breaststroke, one second back.

Chrissy Baumgartner (Fr., Kenmore, Wash.) touched-out Pacific’s Allison Clark at the wall in the women’s 200 individual medley. Baumgartner also won the 100 backstroke by a full second over Pacific’s Eileen Bringman.

For the men, Miles Phillps took top honors in the 1,000 freestyle, highlighting a 1-2-3 finish by the Wildcats.

Dominic Rieniets (Sr., Sherwood, Ore.) won the 200 freestyle, edging Pacific’s Dylan Cramer by less than ½ second, and later prevailed in the 100 freestyle in 49.15.

Yusuke Kobayashi (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke while fellow senior Mark Carder (Sr., Puyallup, Wash.) topped Phillips in the 500 freestyle.

Daniel Werner (Fr., Tillamook, Ore.) was a comfortable winner in the 100 butterfly and Seth Ruwitch (Fr., Canby, Ore.) claimed the 100 breaststroke.

NEXT: Linfield takes a five-week hiatus for the holidays before returning to competition Jan. 15 at home against Pacific Lutheran.
