The Wildcats improve to 9-7-1 overall and 6-6-1 in the Northwest Conference. The loss drops Whitman to 7-9-1 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.
The big story of the day was the Wildcats ability to overcome the loss of goalkeeper Kelsey Hasselblad (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) who was facing a one-game suspension. Linfield turned to Kelsey Bishop, who just joined the team this week.
Doty provided the offense early for the ‘Cats, scoring in fourth and 24th minute. Her first goal of the game came on an assist from Jenna Quiring (Soph., Portland, Ore.).
Trailing 2-0, Whitman did not go away, scoring two times before the half. Lisa Forbes and Amy Hasson found the net to tie the score at two.
In the 60th minute Sara Blake (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) put the Wildcats up 3-2. Twenty minutes later Corina Gabbert scored the equalizer for the Missionaries, beating Bishop on a penalty kick.
Three minutes into the first overtime, Miles’ goal gave the ‘Cats the win, avenging a 4-2 loss to the Missionaries last month in Walla Walla, Wash.
NEXT: Linfield plays host to Whitworth Sunday at 11 a.m. Whitman heads to Willamette to take on the Bearcats in Salem.
