PORTLAND, Ore. – Linfield’s Tyler Nelson (Sr., Spokane, Wash.) shot a 69 on the second day of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, leapfroging him past Pacific’s Max Bonk on the way to medalist honors at Heron Lake Golf Course.

It was Nelson’s fifth tournament win in as many events this fall and helped his Wildcats squad hold off a strong challenge from Whitworth for the Fall Classic team title.

Linfield shot a two-day total of 591, three strokes in front of Whitworth’s 594. Pacific was third at 596, followed by Puget Sound at 607, George Fox at 623, and Pacific Lutheran at 624. Whitman earned seventh place at 629, Willamette was eighth at 642, and Lewis & Clark scored 658.

Trailing Bonk by one stroke after Day 1, Nelson was two strokes better than his NWC rival on Sunday. Christian Boudreau of Whitworth finished third at 144, three strokes back of Nelson’s three-under-par 141.

Yutaro Sakamoto (Jr., Mountain View, Calif.) of Linfield shared fourth place with Whitworth’s Cameron Whittle, each carding a 147.

Alex Fitch (Soph., Redmond, Ore.) shot improved seven strokes Sunday from his score of 79 during the opening round. The Wildcats sophomore ended in a tie for 10th place at 151.

Rounding out the scoring for Linfield was Joel Rychard (Sr., Bend, Ore.), who tied for 13th at 153. Tony Kordosky (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) and Alex Spicer each shot 156, but their scores did not count toward the overall team total.

Results of the NWC Fall Classic count one fourth toward determining the 2010 team champion. Linfield is two-time defending titlist. Competition resumes in the early March.
