June 03, 2009
NCAA decathlon champion Josh Lovell (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) of Linfield added to his hardware collection Tuesday when he was selected as the national Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Competing at the NCAA Division III Championships in Marietta, Ohio last month, Lovell won the men’s decathlon with 7,080 points. He became Linfield’s first national champion in track and field in eight years and broke his career best in the decathlon. He ranks second on the all-time Linfield list.

Earlier, Lovell was named the USTFCCCA’s West Region Field Athlete of the Year, the Northwest Conference Men’s Athlete of the Championship Meet, and was chosen as Linfield’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2008-09.
