Linfield scratches out 1-0 win

McMINNVILLE, Ore.- Kurtis Wong (Sr., Lake Forest Park, Wash.) scored his seventh goal of the season to give Linfield a 1-0 win over George Fox Saturday in a Northwest Conference match. The Wildcats took over 30 shots on the day.

Linfield looked dangerous from the set piece in the 20th minute. Michel Camacho (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) stepped up to take a corner kick from the left side and found Travis Isaacs (Sr., Damascus, Ore.) 12 yards out from goal, but Isaacs’ header floated over the goal.

The 'Cats again took advantage of a Camacho free-kick in the 24th minute, forcing starting Bruin’s goalie Jake Maguire into a save and then Kurtis Wong (Sr., Lake Forest Park, Wash.) slide in for the rebound but sent his shot into the waiting arms of Maguire.

The Wildcats used some sneaky team play on the half-hour mark to give Linfield a much deserved lead. Isaacs provided a decoy run to draw a defender away and Wong broke around the side before slipping a low shot around Maguire.

Camacho clanged a shot off the left post after finding the ball at his feet 8 yards from goal with two minutes left in the half.

Linfield was quick out of the blocks in the second, with Isaacs rolling a shot wide twenty seconds in.

Roland Mason connected with Camacho’s corner in the 54th minute, but a quick, reaction save from Maguire kept the ball out of the net.

Carter Elhabbassi (Jr., West Linn, Ore.) had a chance to seal the win for the Wildcats with three minutes left. Running deep into the Bruin defense to latch onto a Wallace throw-in, Elhabbassi unleashed a hard shot across the face of goal that sailed just wide.

Linfield finished with 31 shots at goal versus the Bruin’s seven. Jon Thompson (Jr., Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) had a quiet day for the ‘Cats making six saves while Maguire made eight.
