Bruins surprise Wildcats
October 05, 2008
NEWBERG, Ore. - Two goals in a five-minute span by Brian Story spearheaded George Fox to a 3-1 Northwest Conference win over Linfield Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats pulled within one score in the second half before the Bruins sealed the victory with their third goal.

A wet afternoon at the Morse Athletic Field put a damper on the opening minutes of the match, but George Fox came alive in the 27th minute. Story took a pass from Brennan Altringer and his hard shot deflected off starting Linfield goalkeeper Joe Locascio and into the lower left corner of the net.

Five minutes later Story bagged his second. Jon Gutierrez provided the setup and Story came through with the finish with a blast from 20 yards out inside the left post. The Wildcats tried to close the gap, but couldn’t muster an opportunity until the second half.

Michel Camacho (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) made it 2-1 in the 51st minute with a shot that bounced in off the right post. However, Altringer added a goal of his own in the 61st minute after latching onto a cross, restoring the Bruins’ two-goal lead.

George Fox outshot Linfield 16-13, forcing four saves by Locascio and one from second-half substitute Jon Thompson (Jr., Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.). Bruins keeper Jake Maguire made six saves.
