Wildcats, Bearcats battle to scoreless draw
Box Score

SALEM, Ore. – Shut out for only the second time all season despite putting up 22 shots, 20th-ranked Linfield settled for a 0-0 draw with Willamette at the conclusion of 110 minutes of Northwest Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Sparks Field.

The Wildcats, who notched an emotional 3-2 victory at Pacific just three days prior, tied for the first time all year as they ran their record to 12-1-1 overall and 8-1-1 against league foes. The Bearcats, meanwhile, recorded their third consecutive shutout while improving to 3-9-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Emily Fellows paced the ‘Cats with eight shots, including four on target. Linfield put a total of 10 shots on frame throughout the match, but could not find the back of the net, at least legally. Marisa Specht converted in the ninth minute, but the goal was waived off due an offside infraction.

The Bearcats also had one goal disallowed, theirs coming as a result of a handball on the scoring play in the 87th minute. Sarah Desautels, who scored in the first meeting between the two clubs in early October, and Rachel Fleener led Willamette with two shots apiece.

Defensively, Linfield keeper Kallina Haase returned to the lineup and made five saves, while Emily Stewall made nine stops between the pipes and the Bearcat defense cleared a 10th shot on goal.

For the match, Linfield outshot Willamette 22-7, including 8-2 in the two overtime periods combined. The Wildcats also earned a whopping 11 corner kicks, including three in double overtime, to the Bearcats' one.

‘CAT SCRATCH: Linfield tied for the first time in more than a year, a stretch that dates back to a 1-1 tie at Lewis & Clark on Sept. 30, 2012…the ‘Cats have gone 2-0-2 against the Bearcats over the last two seasons…Linfield was twice called offside while Willamette was whistled for the same offense three times…the teams committed 15 fouls apiece…Haase started in goal for the first time since Linfield's 2-1 win over Pacific Lutheran on Oct. 12.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats have a full week to rest up and regroup before their final two home contests of the season, Saturday and Sunday, against Whitworth and Whitman. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
