At this rate, Emily Fellows could very well become a two-time Northwest Conference Player of the Year. For the meantime, though, Linfield fans will have to settle for the junior forward’s third straight recognition as the NWC Women’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.

The honor coincides with the release of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, which for the first time includes the Wildcats in the Top 25. Linfield, which was already ranked 23rd by, makes its first appearance in the coaches’ poll as the 25th-best team in Division III.

After picking up three more victories over the past week – including wins over NWC opponents Pacific and George Fox – the ‘Cats are out to their best start in program history at 6-0, while outscoring their opponents 19-1.

Fellows has done her part to help the offense, scoring four times in the Wildcats’ most recent three-match stretch. She found the back of the net once each against Northwest Christian and Pacific and twice against George Fox. Linfield’s all-time leading scorer and the 2010 NWC Player of the Year raised her season goal tally to nine and career total to 42, and is on pace to break her single-season record of 26 goals, a standard she set as a freshman.

She continues to lead the league in most offensive categories, including goals, total points (19), shots on goal (22) and game-winning goals (three). Among national leaders, she ranks ninth (tied) in total goals, 12th (tied) in goals per game, and 12th (tied) in total points.

Fellows has won the weekly conference honor three times this season and seven times over her short yet already prolific career.

As a team, Linfield has also taken care of business on the defensive end of the pitch, posting five shutouts so far this year to lead the Northwest Conference in goals-against-average (0.16).

COMING UP: The Wildcats have their first big test of the Northwest Conference season, traveling to Tacoma, Wash., to face off against 10-time defending champion Puget Sound. Match time is scheduled for noon Saturday at the East Athletic Field. The Wildcats and Loggers split their two contests last year, with each team winning on its opponent’s home field.
