She's back! Fellows tabbed as NWC Offensive Player of the Week

Consider Linfield forward Emily Fellows back in business. The 2010 Northwest Conference Player of the Year, who missed the majority of last season due to injury, has been recognized as the NWC Women’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after her first live action since September of last year. The honor was announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.

Fellows knocked in the game winner as the 'Cats scored a huge victory in their season opener, upsetting 16th-ranked Cal Lutheran by a final count of 2-1. She drew plenty of attention from Regal defenders all match long, but finally freed herself in the 76th minute to receive a through ball and lift it over the CLU keeper, who had come off the line to intercept the cross.

Linfield’s win knocked the Regals out of the national poll altogether. The Wildcats, meanwhile, are now listed as “receiving votes” in the national rankings offered by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and are fourth in the West, first among NWC programs.

Fellows, Linfield’s all-time leading scorer with 34 goals, picked up the conference player of the week honor in the first time it was awarded this season, and has now claimed the award six times over her short, but prosperous, career.

AHEAD: Linfield hosts Warner Pacific in another preseason tune-up Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
