MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Unable to match the momentum and pace set by the Allegheny Gators, Linfield was dealt a 21-3 loss on a partly sunny and breezy Monday night at the Linfield lacrosse field.
Allegheny started strong, scoring four goals in the opening 3½ minutes before Linfield answered with a goal of its own. The Gators did not waste many shots, scoring 22 times on 27 shots attempts. MacKenzie Bell scored three of the first four goals and went on to lead the Gators with a match-high seven tallies.
Allegheny’s Kelsey Rodgers did her part by contributing another four goals for the visitors from Meadville, Pa. Wildcat Shelby Duarte netted two of Linfield’s three goals. Halee Helgerson assisted on two scoring plays. Senior Brittani Drost bagged the third goal unassisted to complete the total for Linfield.
After netting their initial goal of the first half at the 24:32 mark, it would be another 30 minutes of game time before the Wildcats broke through the Gators’ defense for another shot and score. Meanwhile, Allegheny took advantage of the lull in the Linfield offense, scoring nine goals over the same span.
The Wildcats picked up the pace a bit after their second goal, scoring their third point nine minutes later. However, they could not keep their momentum going long enough to chip away at the large lead Allegheny had established.
With the setback, the ‘Cats fell to a 0-4 while the Gators boosted their record to 5-1.
