The National Association of Collegiate Athletic Marketing Administrators has presented Linfield College with a Silver Award for creative design work in the realm of digital video board presentations. It marks the fifth time in six years that a Linfield football video compilation has been singled out for excellence by NACMA.
NACMA announced Linfield as the contest runner-up during its annual “Best of NACMA” awards presentation Tuesday afternoon at the annual gathering of sports marketing professionals in Orlando, Fla. Texas A&M Commerce captured the Gold Award while Missouri Western was given the Bronze Award. A total of 117 awards were announced across 13 different categories, drawing from a list of over 1,100 entries.
Competing in the Video Display Board Segment category, Linfield received the Silver Award for Group III, which comprises institutions affiliated with NCAA Divisions II and III, and the NAIA.
"Winning our fifth ‘Best of NACMA' award is truly a great thrill,” said Ryan Carlson, producer, director and cameraman of the award-winning piece.
Carlson, a 1999 Linfield graduate and former All-America defensive end with the Wildcats, has made it his hobby to originate and produce a video board segment to augment Linfield fans' game-day experience.
Displayed on the Maxwell Field video board moments before the Wildcats take the field before each home football game, the two-minute video segment is joint collaboration between the Wildcats football program, the sports information office and Carlson.
“A lot of thought and effort goes into conceiving and executing these scoreboard videos and it wouldn't happen without the support of the Athletic Department, Joseph  Smith, Mack  Farag, Jackson  Vaughan, Kelly Bird, Craig Singletary, Kelly Carlson, and the players themselves.”

Creation of the video board segment is truly a labor of love. Carlson volunteers untold hours conceiving, shooting, editing and polishing the finished piece. In collaboration with Linfield staffers and the blessing of his wife, Kelly, his efforts help Linfield maintain its position on a pedestal as the premier Northwest small-college football program.
Linfield was recognized four times previously for excellence at NACMA's annual “Best of NACMA” awards, earning a gold award in 2012, a silver award in 2010 and bronze awards in 2009 and 2013.
“Linfield College offers a premier academic and athletic experience and I hope these videos will continue to represent such high quality programs and people," Carlson said.
With summer unfolding, Carlson and his collaborators are already busy conceiving what the 2014 video segment might look like.
