If you were not among the 850 or so purple-and-cardinal clad baseball fans Saturday at sun-splashed Roy Helser Field, you missed seeing the crescendo of an outstanding NCAA Regional baseball tournament.
It was Linfield 4, Wisconsin-Stevens Point 2 in the championship game.

Saturday's emotional victory propels the defending Division III national champion Wildcats to their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Finals. The ‘Cats play Friday at 8 a.m. Pacific time against either St. Thomas (Minn.) or Rose-Hulman (Ind.).
Six games in the McMinnville Regional were decided by one run.
Statistically, the Wildcats led the six-team regional tournament with a .256 batting average and tournament-low 0.75 earned run average.
Star pitchers Chris Haddeland and Aaron Thomassen combined to pitch 17 2/3 innings without giving up an earned run. Nick Fisher hit two home runs and had 13 total bases to pace Linfield offensively.
