Big weekend leads to national acclaim
D3baseball.com Team of the Week
After registering two career firsts in pitching action over the weekend, Cody Walker (So., Hood River, Ore.) added another first to his weekly haul with his selection to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the online organization.

Walker earned his first collegiate victory and save in the same series, helping then second-ranked Linfield to two close victories against Whitworth. In Saturday's Game 1, he tallied two strikeouts as part of a one-two-three ninth inning of relief in a 4-2 win. The next afternoon, the sophomore righty threw 10 of 11 pitches for strikes, recording two strikeouts, over 1.1 scoreless relief innings as the Wildcats edged the Pirates 2-1 in 12 innings. Walker entered Game 3 with runners on second and third and two outs, but calmly recorded four consecutive outs to allow Linfield to pull ahead.

On the year, Walker has made four appearances, totaling six strikeouts against zero walks and allowed just two runs for a 3.38 ERA. This is his first individual recognition award as part of Linfield's baseball program. He became the third Wildcat to receive recognition on the national team of the week this season.

Linfield swept the series against Whitworth, improving to 18-3 overall, including 11-1 against NWC opponents. The ‘Cats reclaimed the top spot in the D3baseball.com poll after a one-week absence, and were listed as the top club in the American Baseball Coaches Association Top 25 for the second straight week.

COMING UP: The Wildcats travel to Tacoma, Wash., for a three-game series against the Puget Sound Loggers, winners of two of their past three contests, Saturday and Sunday.
