Website takes quantum leap forward
Undergoing its first facelift in four years, www.linfield.edu/sports is again one of the most technologically advanced collegiate athletic website designs in the nation. The latest edition of the Linfield College Athletics website represents more than nine months of development and implementation.
 
The underlying mission in the design of the latest version of Linfield Athletics website was “to create a destination that is visually compelling and informative and at the same time is convenient to use on across the spectrum of devices,” said Linfield sports information director Kelly  Bird. “Using bold imagery and quick-glance links to content, the goal was to make Linfield stand out, rather than blend in.”
 
Beneath the surface, Linfield's new athletics website is on the cutting edge of technological design.
 
Integrating the latest “responsive” capabilities, Linfield's primary source of athletics news and information is the first in the Northwest Conference to be fully adaptable for use on all mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Though viewers may not realize the technology is at work, responsive web designs automatically detect the type of device being used  – desktop, tablet or smartphone – and adapt to that device's screen by reconfiguring elements to fit the viewing space, horizontally and vertically.
 
Keeping up with social media trends, Linfield's site is now one of only a handful of Division III athletic sites in the country to incorporate built-in Twitter and Facebook feeds.
 
Centering on action-oriented photography, compact news summaries, plus easy access to broadcast and live statistics portals, the updated athletics website remains a reliable source of in-depth game recaps, feature stories, schedules, rosters and historical record books.
 
Under the direction of Bird and assistant director-external relations Katherine  Brackmann, the sports information office continues to manage all content. Sports information student assistants also contribute content and participate in live video broadcasts.
 
Helping further reinforce the Linfield brand, the traditional Wildcat logo and accompanying “Linfield Wildcats” lettered nameplate are prominently featured on the site.
 
Linfield's athletics website continues to be hosted and managed “in-house.” Linfield web specialists Jonathan  Pierce and Sean Ezell contributed many months of labor in support of the new site. Red Barn Design collaborated with Bird and Pierce on creating the new design.
