NAMPA, Idaho – Beginning a new coaching era on a winning note, Linfield won two of three doubles flights and swept all six singles matches for an easy 8-1 victory over the College of Idaho in nonconference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at River City Racquet Club.

The win was a first for new head coach Lisa Macy-Baker, whose team enjoyed just this one preseason matchup before beginning Northwest Conference action.

Emily Tesnohlidek and Allie Boyd provided the sole Yote point of the afternoon with an 8-6 victory over Caroline Brigham and Mackenzie Fraser (So., Salem, Ore.) in No. 1 doubles. Otherwise, it was all Wildcats.

Kaila Nip (Sr., Lahaina, Hawaii) and Kelly Watanabe (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) edged Shae Stulz and Tanya Greenwood 8-6 in the second doubles flight, while Gretchen Jernstedt (Sr., Wilsonville, Ore.) and Marisa Kume (So., Nagoya, Japan) easily handled Emilee Chapman and Cassie Low 8-2 in the third flight.

With a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stulz, Brigham bounced back from her doubles loss with a win at No. 1 singles. Nip defeated Tesnohlidek 6-2, 6-3 in the second flight, while Watanabe topped Greenwood 6-2, 6-1.

Kume had a battle on her hands at No. 4 singles, but came out ahead of Boyd for a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory in her collegiate singles debut. Jernstedt cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 fifth-flight win over Chapman, and Courtney Mostul (So., Sherwood, Ore.) rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Vanessa Almaraz.

AHEAD: Linfield kicks off the Northwest Conference season with a showdown against Whitman, defending regular season and tournament champion, Friday at 4 p.m. in Walla Walla.
