PORTLAND, Ore. – A three-pronged attached featuring double-digit kills from Victoria Thompson (Sr., Newberg, Ore.), Kailana Ritte-Camara (Sr., Molokai, Hawaii) and Sam Hammons pushed the visiting Linfield Wildcats past the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in Northwest Conference action Saturday night inside Pamplin Sports Center. Linfield won in four sets, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19.
Thompson pounded 14 kills while Ritte-Camara and Hammons each added 11 for the Wildcats (6-13, 2-10 NWC), who earned their first conference road win of the season.
Ritte-Camara surpassed 700 career kills and 700 career digs on the same night. The third-year outside hitter now has 709 kills and 705 digs to rank 11th and 12th, respectively, on Linfield's career ladder.
With Thompson and Ritte-Camara each contributing three kills, plus a couple of service aces by Audrey Frazier, Linfield got off to a good start in the first set. The ‘Cats hit .216 while holding the Pioneers to a -.031 percentage.
Lewis & Clark recovered in the second set to square the match at 1, despite five kills and four digs from Ritte-Camara.
Linfield opened up a seven-point advantage in the third set, 17-10, before L&C stormed back to eventually tie things up at 22. Kills by Thompson and Ritte-Camara, plus an attack error by the Pioneers for the clinching point, swung the momentum onto the visitors' side of the court.
Thompson caught fire for six kills and Casie Gaza (So., Miliani, Hawaii) scooped up eight of her 18 digs in the fourth set, nailing down the road victory for the Wildcats.
Courtney Wanamaker (Sr., West Linn, Ore.) totaled 20 digs and two aces, Frazier finished with 20 assists, nine digs and six aces, and Ritte-Camara enjoyed a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs while adding a solo and an assisted block.
COMING UP: Linfield hosts its final contest of the 2013 season Friday night against the George Fox Bruins. Wildcat seniors Shayli Coppock and Kelsey Ludin will be honored for their contributions to the program on Senior Night.
