BREMERTON, Wash. – With just one golfer finishing among the top 10, Linfield found itself in seventh place after Day 1 of the Northwest Conference Spring Classic, played on a miserably wet and windy Saturday afternoon at the Gold Mountain Golf Course.

Brinn Hovde led the Wildcat contingent with an 11-over-par 83, good for a three-way share of ninth place. Whitworth’s Chelsea Bayley opened up a slim one-stroke lead over the rest of the field, carding a three-over-par 75 over the first 18 holes.

Maggie Harlow (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) is situated in 16th place after shooting an 87 for the first round and Alexandria Smith sits within striking distance of the top 20 with a one-day total of 94.

Rounding out the scoring golfers for Linfield was Malika Reynolds, who shot a 128 to share 36th place.

The Wildcats totaled 392 strokes on Day 1, 70 behind first-place George Fox. The Bruins (322) have just a five-stroke advantage going into the second round, with Whitman hot on their tail with 327 strokes.

COMING UP: The two-day tournament, which counts 25 percent toward determining the NWC champion, concludes Sunday.
