Loggers take 16 of 22 events in sweep

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – In the second meet at the Linfield Aquatic Center in two days, the University of Puget Sound beat Linfield on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 121-84 for the women and 149-56 for the men.

The Wildcats won a season-best six events, but dropped their fourth dual meet of the season.

The Wildcats pulled out a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Nikki Overton (Jr., Gresham, Ore.), Kelcie Kimura, Megan Sandall and Elizabeth Fry (Jr., Bellevue, Idaho) finished the race in 3:45.69 minutes, with their closest Logger competition about 14 seconds behind them.

Overton won first place in the 100-yard freestyle, with a finishing time of 56.83. Overton also finished a close second to Puget Sound’s Melissa Norrish (2:01.12) in the 200 freestyle (2:01.50). Sandall rounded out the top three with a time of 2:06.00.

Sandall contributed another Wildcat win in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 5:35.88 minutes, a full eight seconds before the next competitor.

Catherine Nakamura swam to a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (27.21). She was beat out by Puget Sound’s Ava Williams, who finished the race in 26.49 seconds. Nakamura also swam the 200-yard butterfly in 2:26.15 minutes, which put her in third place behind Loggers Melissa Norrish and Mariah Snowden.

Tori Nickerson (Sr., Oak Harbor, Wash.) counted for one of the Wildcat wins with a 2 minute, 21.08 second finish in the 200 individual medley. Nickerson also pulled up second in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.50). Tracy Wormwood of UPS beat Nickerson to the wall, finishing in 2:35.20.

Logger Aleksander Jeremikj topped Ian White (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.33 to White's 1:51.98.

Lee Rivers accounted for one of the Linfield victories in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.25. In the 200-yard backstroke, Rivers swam into a third-place finish (2:04.81). Puget Sound’s Keven Henley and Teale Kitson took first and second in the same race.

Chris Purdy (Sr., Sublimity, Ore.) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.36.

NEXT: Linfield faces the College of Idaho and Mills College after the Thanksgiving Break on Friday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. at home. The following day, the Wildcats travel to Portland, Ore., to face Lewis and Clark, also at 6 p.m.
