Whitworth Results

Winning only four individual events was not sufficient for the Linfield men and women swimming teams to defeat their Whitman counterparts Friday night at Walla Walla’s Sherwood Center. And with only one individual victory Saturday in Spokane, the Wildcats could not overcome a talented Whitworth squad at the Whitworth Aquatics Center.

The Whitman men outscored Linfield 140-62 while the Missionaries women prevailed 127-78. Whitworth dominated the Linfield men 172-32 while the Pirate women came out out top by a 152-53 count.

On the men’s side, Wildcats Aidan Willers and Troy Thomas (Sr., Portland, Ore.) dominated the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:58.14 and 19:11.92, respectively). Whitman’s Andrew Roehrig rounded out the top three with a time of 19:40.49.

Whitman swimmer Nic Win took the lead in the 400 individual medley (4:21.99) with Linfield’s Lee Rivers trailing at 4:29.63. Rivers also captured a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:04.91). Whitworth’s Callum MacKintosh nipped Rivers for second place (2:02.78) while both trailed event winner Oliver Durand (2:01.44).

In the 100 freestyle, Linfield’s Ian White (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) captured second place (49.94) while teammate Daniel Palacios was third (52.06). White also grabbed third in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.29.

Wildcats sophomore Kelcie Kimura grabbed a pair of firsts, dominating the 100 and 200 freestyle events against Whitman. A day later, Kimura earned the Wildcats’ lone victory over Whitworth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25:54.

Linfield’s 200 freestyle relay squad finished .10 seconds behind the Missionaries. Kimura joined teammates Nikki Overton (Jr., Gresham, Ore.), Tori Nickerson (Sr., Oak Harbor, Wash.), and Megan Sandall to claim the runner-up finish (1:43.05).

Kimura also was instrumental in the Wildcats’ runner-up finish against Whitworth in the 400 freestyle relay with teammates Overton, Elizabeth Fry (Jr., Bellevue, Idaho), and Sandall.

Whitworth’s Alisa Stang took the 200 freestyle (1:58.71) with Overton trailing by 3.29 seconds.

Linfield’s Catherine Nakamura was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.47.
