Owens lands all-region honors
Complete All-West Region Team

Two-time Northwest Conference leading scorer and Linfield guard Gretchen Owens has been honored with first team recognition on the 2011-12 NCAA Division III Women’s All-West Region Team, as announced Monday by

Owens averaged a career-high 21.4 points per game to lead the league in offensive output for the second consecutive season. She reached double figures in scoring every game, including a 35-point effort against Whitworth that matched a career high.

The three-time NWC all-star also contributed a team-best 7.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest and led the league in free throw percentage (87.5).

This is the second career all-region honor for Owens, who was named to the second team at the conclusion of her junior season (2010-11). She graduates as the No. 2 all-time leading scorer at Linfield with 1,404 total points.

As a team, the Wildcats finished seventh in the conference with a 10-15 overall record, including 4-12 in league games.

To become eligible for all-region recognition, players were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at their respective schools. A national ballot of 653 total players, a new high, was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
