NEWBERG, Ore. – Linfield track and field athletes won 17 events to split what was essentially a dual meet against George Fox at the Rich Allen Classic Saturday afternoon at Colcord Field.

George Fox, the defending Northwest Conference champion on the women’s side, won the meet with 80 points to Linfield’s 73. The Wildcat men, however, topped their Bruin counterparts 92-71.

Linfield also saw 10 more athletes post qualifying marks for the NWC Championships.

Melany Crocker swept the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash (12.83) and the 200 (26.6 hand time) in season-best times. She had previously qualified for the league championship meet in both events at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker.

Two Wildcats posted NWC qualifying times in the 800, as Nelly Evans took first (2:21.94) and teammate Audrey Lichten (Jr., Sequim, Wash.) finished second (2:24.48). Competing unopposed, Shanna Peaden won the 5K in an NWC-qualifying time of 18 minutes, 31.92 seconds.

The Linfield women also won three field events: the pole vault, discus and hammer throw.

Misty Corwin qualified for the league championships in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 11 feet, 3 ¾ inches (3.45 meters) to win the event. Courtney Alley (Sr., Eagle, Idaho) topped all competitors in the discus with a season-best toss of 113-6 (34.59 m). Teammate Anna LaBeaume (Sr., Sequim, Wash.) recorded two NWC-qualifying marks, winning the hammer throw (149-6 or 45.56 m) and taking second in the discus (104-9 or 31.94 m). LaBeaume's effort in the hammer was a career-best.

Not to be outdone by the women, the Linfield men won 10 events and saw five more athletes qualify for the NWC Championships.

Jason Cheyne posted a qualifying time in the 100-meter dash, winning the event in a season-best 11.22 seconds. Colin Nelson won the 400 in an NWC-qualifying time of 51.19.

Picking up two more wins were Chad Linnerooth (Jr., Carnation, Wash.) in the 1,500 (4:14.68) and Michael Madden in the 400 hurdles (59.19).

Three Wildcats qualified for the NWC Championships in the 5K: Eric Weinbender, Scott Gage and Joe Gladow (Sr., Shoreline, Wash.). Weinbender won the race in 15 minutes, 33.35 seconds, Gage was second (15:39.50) and Gladow took fourth (15:45.88).

The 4x100 relay team composed of Zach Kawamoto, Nelson, Cheyne and Nick Turner defeated George Fox in a time of 43.50.

Linfield capped off the afternoon by winning four field events. Dillon Lytsell took first in the pole vault (11-9.75 or 3.6 m) while Drew Wert won the shot put (42-5.5 or 12.94 m).

Kyle Pfeifer won the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 159 feet, 4 inches (48.56 m) and Josh Melander won the javelin with a season-best heave of 163 feet, 1 inch (49.72 m).
