PORTLAND, Ore. – Linfield sluggers Haylie Watson and Staci Doucette each drove in five runs, Katy Brosig homered twice and Linfield outhit Lewis & Clark 20-4 to squash the Pioneers 8-0 and 11-0 in a pair of run-rule shortened games Saturday at Huston Sports Complex.
The top-ranked Wildcats hit seven home runs during the Northwest Conference twinbill, stole four bases, and didn’t commit a single error against the winless Pioneers (0-8, 0-6 NWC).
Linfield put up three runs in both the second and third innings to build a comfortable lead early on.
Pitchers Lauren Harvey and Montana McNealy (Sr., Aloha, Ore.) combined to throw a three-hitter. Harvey improved to 4-0 for the season.
Doucette doubled and hit a home run. Jordan Mixsell also had a pair of hits, including a stand-up double.
In addition to Doucette’s roundtripper, Emilee Lepp, Ashley Garcia and Brosig each took turns hitting balls out of the park. Garcia, a first-year starter, parked her fourth home run of the season.
Karina Paavola and Shelby VandeBergh paired for seven-strikeout, one-hit shutout in the nightcap. Paavola raised her season record to 4-0.
Watson smacked a three-run homer in the first inning and Linfield pounced on L&C pitching for six runs in the opening frame. The ‘Cats brought 10 batters to the plate.
Lepp went 2-for-4 with a home run, her third. Doucette was 2-for-3 and drove in four runs, including a two-run homer to center field in the second inning that pushed her team-leading home run total to five.
