SALEM, Ore. – Winning nine individual events and three relays, the Linfield College men’s and women’s swimming squads earned matching Northwest Conference dual-meet victories Saturday over Willamette at the WU Natatorium.

The Linfield men outscored their Willamette counterparts 129-66 while the Wildcat women topped the Bearcats ladies by a 106-95 count. It was the final dual meet of the season with only the NWC Championships left on the slate.

On the men’s side, Lee Rivers was a clearcut winner in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10 minutes 22.53 seconds) and also took second place in the 200 backstroke (2:05.96).

Wildcats frosh Ian Coker (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured the 200 freestyle (1:55.00) and was third in the 200 IM (2:16.25). Sean Iwamasa won the 100 freestyle (52.54) and was second in the 50 freestyle (24.56). Marc Pereira earned the victory over Iwamasa by less than half a second (24.19).

Miles Phillips was a runaway winner in the 200 butterfly (2:07.90), easily outdistancing Willamette’s Ian McGahan, who was second in 2:25.93. Seth Ruwitch outdueled WU’s Alexander Le Bel in the 500 freestyle to take the event in 5:15.29.

Linfield’s women had only three first-place finishes but used superior depth to record their first NWC dual meet victory of the season. Freshman Kelcie Kimura won both the 200 freestyle (2:03.02, season-best) and the 200 individual medley (2:26.85).

Katie Main prevailed in the 200 butterfly (2:21.88) and was runner-up behind Kimura in the 200 IM (2:28.28).

Linfield's women improved to 3-6 overall and 1-6 in the NWC. The Linfield men moved to 3-5, 2-5 in the NWC.

AHEAD: Linfield will rest in preparation for the NWC Championships, Feb. 10-12, at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash.
