Eight Great Wildcats
Complete NWC All-Star Team

A record-breaking year for the Linfield women’s soccer program continued Wednesday with the announcement that eight Wildcats have been selected to the 2011 All-Northwest Conference Women’s Soccer Team, including four first team honorees and four first-time recipients.

Headlining the list of honorees were defender Jenna Quiring, midfielders Anna Sours and Christine Tamamoto and forward MacKenzie Doty, all of whom were named to the first team.

Goalkeeper Apolonia Martinez and defender Emily Allison were accorded second team honors, and honorable mention consideration went to midfielders Lindzee Baker (Sr., Spokane, Wash.) and Stephanie Socotch.

Quiring, a four-year starter, captained a Linfield defense that surrendered just 15 goals this season, setting a program record for fewest allowed. Individually, Quiring scored three goals, the only ones of her career, and also contributed two assists.

Making the first team for the first time in her three-year career was Sours, who netted four goals and a team-high five assists. She also ranked third (tied) in the Northwest Conference with assists. An honorable mention selection the previous two seasons, Sours now has 16 total goals, good for ninth on Linfield’s career ladder.

Tamamoto earned a career-high 12 points this season with four goals and four assists. She scored two game-winning goals, against Pacific and Willamette, and posted her highest point total (3) against Oregon Tech. The midfielder was an honorable mention selection last season as a freshman.

Doty was Linfield’s points leader this season, tallying eight goals and four assists. The senior captain scored three game-winners and had one multiple-goal match, scoring twice against Oregon Tech in the first game of the season. She concludes her career with 21 goals, fifth-most in program history, and eight assists over three years. This is the second conference honor for Doty, who was also a first team selection as a junior in 2009.

Martinez started 15 games in goal for the Wildcats, earning 11 wins and eight shutouts, the latter of which tied a program record. The first-year starter allowed only eight goals for a 0.52 goals-against average, a statistic that ranked second in the league and set a single-season Linfield record.

Another key member of the Linfield defense was Allison, a second-year player who started all 20 matches for the ‘Cats. The defender also occasionally played up front, where she contributed one assist and took three shots over the course of the year.

Baker, a freshman, was one of five players to start all 20 matches for the Wildcats. The midfielder took 14 shots, including six shots on goal. She was one of only four freshmen named to the all-league squad, and the only rookie from Linfield.

Second-year player Socotch stepped into the starting lineup full-time, starting 18 of 20 matches this season. She tallied one goal, the fourth of her career, which was the game-winner in Linfield’s second match against George Fox.

Linfield achieved its highest-ever finish in the Northwest Conference, concluding the year in second place with an 11-2-3 league record and 14-2-3 overall win-loss mark. The club also set single-season program records for wins (14) and shutouts (10).

Willamette’s Stephanie Skelly was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 16 goals. Her coach, Hillary Arthur, was selected as the NWC Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a third-place finish. Anisa Babar of Whitworth was chosen as the NWC Defensive Player of the Year.
