'Cats no match for Loggers
Box Score

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Puget Sound men’s soccer team doubled Linfield’s shot attempts en route to a 3-0 Northwest Conference victory over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the Linfield soccer field.

The Loggers (7-6, 6-4 NWC) blanked the ‘Cats (2-10-1, 1-8-1 NWC) for the second time this season, totaling six goals to none over both matches.

Puget Sound earned three corner kicks early in the first half, finally scoring on the third. Terence Blackburn took the corner, delivering a pass to Andrew White, who laced a strike past Linfield keeper Cody Tipton to give the Loggers an early 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

Defensively, although Puget Sound was awarded four additional corner kicks, the Wildcats held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the half. But on the other end of the field, Linfield hardly challenged the Loggers, getting off just two shots over the first 45 minutes, neither of which came after the first score of the game.

Things remained quiet offensively for both clubs until midway through the second stanza. In the 65th minute, Sam Naatz tallied his first goal of the season, scoring from about five yards out on the right side of the goal. Andrew White and Landon Gauthier both assisted on the play.

The third and final goal for the Loggers came on a set piece. Gauthier delivered a corner kick to Nicholas Campanelli, who headed the ball into the net to give Puget Sound a 3-0 lead with about six minutes remaining in the match.

Danny Snelgrow and Harper Taylor provided the only shot attempts for the ‘Cats with two apiece. Puget Sound, meanwhile, took eight total shots and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-5.

Logger goalkeeper Chris McDonald made two saves to earn the win, his seventh of the year. Tipton made two saves in the loss.
