McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield women’s lacrosse club got a second crack at Puget Sound, but again fell to the Loggers, this time by a score of 19-8 Saturday afternoon at the Linfield lacrosse field.

The Loggers (6-6), who won this season’s first matchup 23-17, outshot the Wildcats (1-11) 33-21 en route to the victory.

Linfield was down but not out at halftime, facing a deficit of only six goals. But the home team could only watch as that margin swelled to 14-3 with a 5-0 run by Puget Sound to open the second period.

The ‘Cats made it interesting with a big rally late in the second half, outscoring the Loggers 5-0 over a span of 10 minutes. An unassisted goal by Mariah Jones at the 9:36 mark cut the lead to 14-8.

But Puget Sound would respond with a run of its own to extend the lead back to double digits. The Loggers held Linfield scoreless the rest of the game as they scored five more times.

The Loggers were lead by Julia Schulman, who had a game-high six goals. Teammate Kristine Morris added four.

Aside from three goals by Jones, only two other ‘Cats provided offense. Anna Gorciak found the back of the net four times and Shelby Duarte (Jr., San Ramon, Calif.) had one goal.

Puget Sound netminder Ana Calciano made seven saves to nine by her counterpart, Hayley Steele.

NEXT: The Wildcats play the final match of the season at home against Pacific Tuesday at 6 p.m.
