Street tops own pole vault mark at Linfield Invite

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Catherine Street set a school record in the pole vault to highlight the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Maxwell Field.

Street cleared a height of 13-3 1/2, besting the rest of the field by nearly three feet. She attempted to break the national record but missed on all three tries at 13-9.

Linfield got two more first-place efforts from Chelsea Machida and Anna LaBeaume (Sr., Sequim, Wash.). Machida won the high jump, clearing a height of 5-3 3/4. LaBeaume was the event winner in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 43-2 1/4.

Finishing two-three in the javelin were Kate Shear (Sr., Knappa, Ore.) and Kristen Allison. The two both threw season bests as Shear posted a throw of 137-7 and Allison threw 121-0.

Courtney Alley (Sr., Eagle, Idaho) was third in the discus with a heave of 108-5.

In the running events, Morgan Cohen placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.83) and third in the 200 (27.06). Both times were season-bests, and her mark in the 100 is the eighth-fastest all-time at Linfield.

Other second place finishes came from Siena Noe (Jr., Yakima, Wash.) in the 10,000 run (41:56.68) and Brooke Bekkedahl in the 400 hurdles (season-best 1:07.84).

Michaela Neary of Clackamas Community College was the only double-event winner on the women’s side, winning both the 100 hurdles (15.82) and the 400 hurdles (1:07.24).

For the Linfield men, Nick Turner placed second in the 100 with a season-best time of 11.32. Also finishing second in his event was Lester Maxwell in the 800 (1:55.83).

Eric Weinbender was the only other top-3 finisher for the Wildcats, taking third in the 1,500 (4:08.16).

Lewis & Clark’s Kevin Carpenter was the top runner of the day. He crossed the tape first in both the 100 (11.02) and the 200 (22.28). Unattached Ethan Moore was also a double event-winner, taking first in the long jump (21-08.75) and the triple jump (43-03).

Team scores were not compiled at the meet.

NEXT: The ‘Cats compete next Saturday at the Pacific Luau, beginning at 10 a.m.
