Fitch 2nd, Wildcats 11th at Kingsmen Invitational

LOMPOC, Calif. – Linfield’s Alex Fitch fired three consecutive rounds of 78 to share second place at the prestigious Kingsmen Invitational hosted by California Lutheran University at La Purisuma Golf Club.

Fitch’s total score of 234 placed him in a tie for runner-up with Whitworth’s Jesse Salzwedel.

Linfield finished 11th out of 14 schools in the team standings. Playing on its home course, host California Lutheran (962) finished seven strokes ahead of Whitworth (969) to win the three-round competition.

Tain Lee of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps produced the best overall individual score, carding a 221, 13 strokes ahead of Fitch and Salzwedel.

Linfield’s Yutaro Sakamoto shot 252 to share 38th place, A.J. Taylor was 52nd with a total of 256, Josh Kay earned 69th place at 267 and Tommy Schmitz was 70th at 268.

NEXT: Linfield prepares for the Northwest Conference Spring Classic, set for Saturday and Sunday at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie near Tacoma, Wash.
