Redlands rolls over Linfield

REDLANDS, Calif. – Linfield struck out against the nationally-ranked Redlands men’s tennis club, falling 8-1 in a nonconference match Saturday at Verdieck Courts.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 17 in the nation and fourth in the West Region, improve to 7-6. The Wildcats, ranked ninth in the region, slip to 3-6 overall.

Brent Kingzett earned the only points for the ‘Cats, winning his No. 3 singles flight in three sets over Anish Nanda 7-6 (7-6), 2-6, 10-8.

“He set the standard today for us in terms of how we want compete in matches on a point-by-point basis,” head coach Carl Swanson said of Kingzett.

The Bulldogs swept the remaining singles flights and all three doubles matches on their way to the dominating win.

Redlands’ No. 1 player Cameron Spearman defeated Mark Magdaong 6-2, 6-4. Conor Hyde topped Tal DeWitt 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 4 match, Darren Dahl crushed Cody Levien 6-1, 6-1 and Mark Bloom blanked Tim Wagar 6-0, 6-0. The final singles flight saw Kevin Wong earn a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Zachery Lyons.

In doubles action, Spearman and Jeff Casserd took the No. 1 flight over Magdaong and Kingzett 8-4. Hyde and Bloom defeated Levien and Lyons 8-3. Wong and Casey Fashhour dominated DeWitt and Wagar 8-1.

NEXT: Linfield concludes its two-match trip to California, taking on Salisbury Monday morning at 10 a.m.
