Linfield in the hunt after first day of Logger Invitational
First-Day Results

TACOMA, Wash. – Shrugging off wet and windy weather, Oklahoma Christian grabbed the opening-round lead of the Logger Invitational Thursday at Fircrest Golf Course.

Led by first-day leader Axel Ochoa, Oklahoma Christian netted a combined score of 293 to take early command. Linfield sits in second place, nine stokes back at 302. Puget Sound (309), Pacific Lutheran (311), and North Idaho (332) round out the field.

Ochoa shot a one-under-par 70 and leads by two strokes. Puget Sound’s Matt Kitto is next at 72, just ahead of Linfield’s Alex Fitch and A.J. Taylor. The Wildcats duo finished with matching two-over-par 73s, good for fourth place heading into Friday’s second round.

“The weather was a problem for many of the golfers all day," said Linfield coach Greg Copeland. “But the guys hung in there.”

The course was soggy all day with rain and wind playing a factor much of the time.

For the first tournament of the spring season, the Wildcats played fairly well, slotting three golfers among the top 10 of the field.

Linfield’s Yutaro Sakamoto and Tommy Schmitz, carding scores of 74 and 82, respectively.

The highlight of the day came from Schmitz, who recorded an eagle on the 12th hole.
