'Cats dismiss Missionaries

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield remains undefeated in Northwest Conference women’s tennis, thanks to a 7-2 victory over the Whitman club Sunday at the Linfield Tennis Center.

The Wildcats improve to 4-0 in the Northwest Conference (4-1 overall) as the Missionaries slip to 2-1 in league play (2-3 overall).

Whitman won the first match of the day, as Elise Otto and Alyssa Roberg defeated Abby Olbrich and Sarah Click 8-6. But the ‘Cats took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights.

Sophie Larson and Caroline Brigham earned a victory over Emily Rolston and Kate Kunkel-Patterson 8-5. Linfield’s Sarah Watanabe and Lexi Thomas narrowly edged Lizzy Schiller and Hannah Palkowitz 9-7.

In singles play, the Wildcats won five of six flights to secure the win.

Olbrich turned the tables in the No. 1 singles match, defeating Otto 6-3, 6-4. Whitman’s Roberg picked up the lone win for the Missionaries, blanking Thomas 6-0, 6-0. Larson got the best of Rolston 7-6 (6-2), 6-4. At the No. 4 slot, Click went to three sets against Kunkel-Patterson, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Brigham also won in three sets over Schiller 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. Watanabe dominated in the final flight of the afternoon, disposing of Hadley Scherer 6-0, 6-2.

NEXT: The ‘Cats travel to Pacific for a 3:30 p.m. match Friday afternoon.
