Wildcats drop second game

LEWISTON, Idaho – Despite a late rally, Linfield ended its time at the Guardian Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Tournament on a low note, falling 4-2 Sunday to host Lewis-Clark State.

Suffering their second loss in a row, the No. 8 Wildcats drop to 5-2 as the Warriors improve to 7-1.

Lewis-Clark State, an NAIA program, scored first in the bottom of the second when Trent Bridges singled to right field to bring home Cody Garner.

The Warriors put up three more scores in the sixth. Bridges reached base on a fielding error by the Linfield short stop and Gino Casini was able to score. Two consecutive singles by Connor Moore and Cody Weiss drove home two more runs.

Linfield finally scored in the top of the seventh inning. Kramer Lindell (Sr., West Linn, Ore.) flied out to center field, allowing Tim Wilson to cross home plate.

The final score of the game came in the eighth inning when Clayton Truex (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) singled to center field to bring home Ryan Larson from third base.

Robert Vaughn was charged with the loss after giving up seven hits and four runs in 5 2/3 innings. He threw seven strikeouts before being relieved by Spencer Crepeaux.

Tyrell Poggemeyer picked up the win for Lewis-Clark State, surrendering just two hits over six innings.

Offensively, the Warriors outhit the 'Cats 8-5. For Linfield, Larson went 2-for-4, Truex was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Kyle Chamberlain and Wilson both went 1-for-4.

NEXT: The ‘Cats play at home for the first time this season Saturday versus Oregon Tech. The doubleheader begins at noon.
