Linfield thumps Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. – Linfield put on a dominating performance in its second match of the season, defeating Lewis & Clark 8-1 Saturday at the LC Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (2-0, 2-0 NWC) earned victories in all three doubles contests to get the win over the Pioneers (0-3, 0-2 NWC).

"A win in our home opener and a win on the road is a good start," said head coach Carl Swanson. "The guys are committed and understand we have to get better and improve each step of the way on our path to team success."

Mark Magdaong and Brent Kingzett started things off for the ‘Cats, winning the No. 1 doubles flight over George Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter 8-6. Cody Levien and Zachery Lyons blanked the Lewis & Clark tandem of Sam Franer and Kerry White 8-0. Tal DeWitt and Tim Wagar paired to take the final doubles match, winning 8-1 over Muneeb Khan and Gabriel Trepanier.

The No. 1 singles match was tightly contested, going to three sets. The Pios’ Allen eventually defeated Magdaong 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).

Linfield won the remaining five flights of singles action, all in straight sets.

Levien got a victory over Roth-Carter 6-0, 6-4. DeWitt, playing at the No. 3 slot, defeated Cole Pfeiffer 6-0, 6-2. Lyons had an impressive win, blanking White 6-0, 6-0. Kingzett collected a victory over Khan 6-1, 6-0. No. 6 Wagar rounded out the team scores with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Franer.

"Lyons was our most efficient player today, and it’s enjoyable to watch him step into his starting role and embrance the opportunity," Swanson said. "Wagar played great attacking tennis today and was solid in singles and doubles."

NEXT: Linfield returns home for a key Northwest Conference match against No. 19 Whitman Saturday at 5 p.m.
