ANTHEM, Ariz. – Linfield ended its stint at the Arizona Classic in impressive fashion, dominating Texas-Dallas 12-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats run their record to 4-0 as the Comets drop to 2-2.

The ‘Cats spread their offense across four innings, with the most action coming at the beginning and end of the game.

Linfield took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Zach Boskovich hit a double to bring home Dustin Smith. Boskovich was able to cross the plate himself after the next batter, Cole Bixenman, grounded out to second base.

The Wildcats increased their lead with a three-run third inning.

Texas-Dallas got its one and only run in the bottom of the third when Chase Brown was walked with the bases loaded.

The scoreboard remained stuck at 5-1 for three scoreless innings until Linfield exploded for six runs in the eighth. The outburst was highlighted by a double from Jesse Boustead that allowed three Wildcats to score.

Evan Hilberg pitched five scoreless innings, recording seven strikeouts and giving up just a pair of hits. He was relieved by Spencer Crepeaux.

For the Comets, Jason Fink took the loss, giving up five runs in four innings of work.

On the offensive end for the ‘Cats, Boskovich hit 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Smith went 3-for-5 and Kyle Chamberlain was 2-for-4.

Head coach Scott Brosius expressed his excitement about how well the club has performed in the early going.

“We pitched extremely well throughout the four-game tournament. Every starter gave us a good performance and the guys in the bullpen pitched very well also,” Brosius said. “Outside of a couple of innings, we played pretty solid defense. Offensively, we swung the bats very well at times.”

NEXT: Linfield takes on Western Oregon, a Division-II program, Friday afternoon at the Lewis-Clark State Tournament. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
