McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Gretchen Owens has been named the Northwest Conference Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league’s sports information directors Tuesday.

Owens hit a clutch 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining to seal an overtime victory over Simpson University Friday night. She finished the game with a season-high 31 points and 13 rebounds. On the week, she averaged 20.5 points, shooting .439 from the field (17-39), .364 from behind the arc (4-11), and .750 from the free throw line.

A second-team all-league selection last season, Owens is averaging 19.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. She is shooting .504 (68-of-135) from the floor, .368 (14-of-38) from 3-point range and .767 (23-of-30) from the free throw line.

Owens currently leads the league in scoring and is seventh in rebounding.

This is the first student-athlete of the week award of the year for Owens, and also of her career. She is the first Wildcat to receive the weekly honor this season.
