Former All-American Joni Tonn returns to the coaching staff at her alma mater for her ninth overall season.
Tonn, formerly Claypool, was a three-time All-American and remains Linfield’s record holder in the shot put. After claiming back-to-back Northwest Conference championships in her signature event, she capped off her career with a third-place showing at the 2006 NCAA Division III national championship meet.
Tonn arrived at Linfield via Stayton High School, where she was a seven-time letterwinner in track, volleyball and dance, claiming the Oregon Class 3A shot put championship as a senior.
She still holds the top mark on Linfield’s Top 10 in the shot put at 46 feet, 4¾ inches (14.14 meters) and also ranks fourth in the discus and sixth in the hammer throw. She graduated from Linfield in 2006 with a degree in sociology, and in addition to her coaching duties serves as the college’s interim director of community engagement and service.
Tonn recently completed requirements for the USTFCCCA specialist certification in the throwing events.
