Mickey Polis is in his second season as assistant men's basketball coach.
Polis arrived at Linfield from Portland State University where he served as Director of Basketball Operations under head coach Tyler Geving. He spent the previous four seasons in that position, during which time the Vikings reached the Big Sky Conference semifinals twice, losing each time to Weber State and NBA rookie of the year Damian Lillard.
Polis played two years at Lower Columbia College where he participated in two NWAACC tournaments. After receiving an Associate Arts degree from LCC, Polis transferred to Portland State for his final two seasons. With Polis on the roster, PSU won 46 games, two Big Sky Conference titles and twice qualified for the NCAA tournament. In the tournament, Polis was 3 for 3 from the three-point line with three assists and two steals. He led the Vikings in three-point field goal accuracy, shooting 47 percent.
Polis graduated from Portland State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and went on to earn his master’s degree in education with a State of Oregon teaching certificate.
A native of Longview, Wash., and a graduate of Mark Morris High School, Polis played for Hall of Fame coach Bill Bakamus, leading the Monarchs to four Class AAA state tournament appearances, three of them as a starter. He earned all-state honors, averaging 13 points, seven assists, and three steals a game. His high school basketball career culminated in a state runner-up finish in 2005.
