Linfield Student Health Center

Student Health Services

Any Linfield College Student is eligible to use the Student Health Center.

Appointments are required, but walk-ins are accommodated when space is available. The Student Health Center is a service provided through your tuition fees. Services provided on-campus are free of charge, including exams and routine lab work. Students are responsible for medication costs. On occasion, it is necessary for a student to be sent off-campus for an exam, lab, or x-ray their insurance will be billed. It is a good idea to have your medical information with you when you are at school.

Confidentiality

All Student Health Center records are completely confidential. We will not release information about your medical care to anyone without your written consent.

Staff

The Health Center is primarily staffed by two certified nurse practitioners. The Medical Director Dr. Huston is available for consultation. A health educator provides Health Education Sessions. The services are provided by Physicians' Medical Center
through a contract with Linfield College. We strive to deliver the best possible care. Our emphasis is on health promotion as well as treatment of specific medical problems. You can also check out our Student Health Center Staff pages.

Medical Care

The primary purpose of the Student Health Center is to diagnose and treat health problems including:
Acute illnesses such as colds, flu, sore throats, ear infections, bronchitis, mononucleosis, urinary tract infections, and hay fever Skin problems such as rashes, itching, scabies, lice, acne Minor trauma including cuts and abrasions, sprains and strains Gynecological exams for menstrual disorders, breast disease and reproductive health Sexually transmitted diseases Headaches, abdominal pain, chest, and back pain The Health Center can help students monitor and assist with referral for chronic illnesses including: diabetes, eczema, asthma, hypertension, arthritis, and seizure disorders. Limited laboratory work is done on campus. Extensive testing and x-rays are done off campus by referral and are the financial responsibility of the student.

Health Promotion and Education

Maintaining good health is vital for academic success. Remember that you play the crucial role in maintaining your health. Since it is preferable to prevent a problem than treat it, there is a health educator and peer health educators available to present Health Education Sessions. Individual consultation is also available in the following areas: nutrition and weight control, assistance with smoking cessation, planning a fitness program, stress reduction, breast self-exam, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS and other health related issues.
