Competitive Scholarships for Undergraduate Study

BARRY M. GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP

About 320 awards (up to $7500/year) to undergraduate science or mathematics students for their last year or two of undergraduate study. Students must be planning a career in science or mathematics. Awards in two categories: two-year scholarships to those who will be juniors and one-year scholarships to those who will be seniors in the upcoming academic year. GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP

Instituted in the Fall of 2000, this scholarship provides funds for outstanding, well-rounded low-income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic American and Asian-Pacific American students. Must have minimum 3.3 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants must be nominated by the president, a dean, or by one of their professors, must demonstrate financial need and leadership abilities. They may be an undergraduate student or applying for graduate school. Campus deadline: December 10, 2008. DEADLINE: January 12, 2009. www.gmsp.org/

HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP

70-75 scholarships for $30,000 to full-time junior level college students who plan graduate study to prepare for a career in government or another area of public service. Scholars are eligible for additional assistance toward for graduate. US citizen or national. MORRIS K. UDALL SCHOLARSHIP
Established by Congress in 1992, this scholarship provides approximately 80 awards of up to $5000 for tuition, fees, room and board. Applicants must be either 1) college sophomores or juniors with outstanding potential who are studying the environment and related fields, or 2) current sophomores or juniors who are Native American or Alaska Native with outstanding potential and who are studying fields related to health care or tribal policy. Must have at least "B" average and be US citizen, resident alien, or US national. Campus DEADLINE to be considered a Linfield nominee: January 19, 2009; DEADLINE: March 3, 2009. www.udall.gov
