Cable TV at Linfield College

Why do I need a cable box?
Linfield’s cable service provider is Comcast Cable.  Comcast scrambles its cable signal to protect from cable theft, forcing anyone using their service to use a cable box to unscramble the signal.

Who can get a cable box? Does it cost me anything?

All Linfield students living in College housing (residence halls, apartments and fraternities) can check out a cable box from Comcast free of charge to use in their room or apartment.  During orientation, we invite Comcast technicians to come to campus and check out cable boxes to students to make it easier for those students who want to use a cable box.  Cable boxes are checked out directly to students, making them their responsibility.  If a cable box is lost or broken, Comcast will charge the student to replace it.

When and where can I get a cable box?

Comcast will be on campus at Withnell Commons the following days from Noon–5pm:

  • Friday, August 19th
  • Thursday, August 25th
  • Saturday, August 27th
  • Monday, August 29th

What will I need to take?
Most students will need only their Linfield ID when picking up their cable box.

If a student requested a privacy hold on his or her account on CatNet, he or she will need, in addition to a Linfield ID, a printout from the Office of Student Affairs that confirms status as a student in College Housing. The Office of Student Affairs is located in 110 Melrose Hall and can be reached at (503) 883-2278.

What if I missed the cable check out days?

If students are unable to pick up a cable box during the times listed above, they must go to Comcast’s store in McMinnville at 4025 Nimbus Loop, McMinnville OR 97128.

If students have any questions, have them contact Area Director Andrew Frei afrei@linfield.edu.
