Description: Introduction to sweep of U.S. literature from itspre-Columbian precursors through British colonialperiod, establishment of new nation, American Renaissance, Ages of Realism, Naturalism and Modernism, Post-World War II experimentation thathave produced contemporary literary scene (including advent of postmodernism). Emphasis on themes involving nature, transformative impact ofmodernity, increasingly diverse chorus of voicescommensurate with expansion of democratic ideals.Lecture/discussion.
