| Description: | Exploration of an organism's adaptive capacity toacquire information. Use of the scientific methodto explore principles and empirical phenomena ofclassical (Pavlovian) and instrumental/operantconditioning. Attention also given to memoryprocesses in primarily nonhuman animals, and thework of systematic theorists (e.g., Hull, Tolman)discussed to acquaint students with majorhistorical figures in the field. Lecture/discuss-ion portion of the course considers empiricalfindings, theories, and applications within thefield of learning, while the learning simulationprojects provide an opportunity for the student tosee these principles in action.Prerequisite: any one of the following--101, 181,182, 183, 186, 187 or 188.Offered spring of even-numbered years.4 credits (NW) |
