Description: Exploration of an organism's adaptive capacity toacquire information. Use of the scientific methodto explore principles and empirical phenomena ofclassical (Pavlovian) and instrumental/operantconditioning. Attention also given to memoryprocesses in primarily nonhuman animals, and thework of systematic theorists (e.g., Hull, Tolman)discussed to acquaint students with majorhistorical figures in the field. Lecture/discuss-ion portion of the course considers empiricalfindings, theories, and applications within thefield of learning, while the learning simulationprojects provide an opportunity for the studenttosee these principles in action.Prerequisite: any one of the following: 101, 281,282, 283, 284, 286 or 287.Typically offered spring of even-numbered years.4 credits.
