4/25/2008 UPCOMING EVENTS AT LINFIELD COLLEGE

THURSDAY, MAY 1

LEPROSY HOSPITAL: Two Linfield College students will discuss their recent volunteer experience in India during a presentation, “Goats, Germs and Saris – Experiences in a Leprosy Hospital in India,” on Thursday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall. READING: Diana Abu-Jaber, the award-winning author of "Crescent," will present a lecture Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2517.

THEATRE: Linfield College theatre students will present “Bleacher Bums,” a comedy conceived by Joe Mantegna and written by members of the Chicago Organic Theater Company. The play will run May 1-3 and 8-10 at 8 p.m. and May 4 at 2 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall. Tickets are $9 for full price and $7 for students and seniors (62+), with a $2 discount on opening night. For more information, call 503-883-2292.

DANCE CONCERTS: Members of the Linfield College Dance Ensemble will present “Stage Rage,” two dance concerts to be held Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall. MONDAY, TUESDAY, MAY 5-6

PHILOSOPHY LECTURES: John Churchill, secretary of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, will present the Walter Powell-Linfield College Philosophy Lectures Monday and Tuesday, May 5 and 6, at Linfield College. Churchill will present “By What Authority?: Liberal Education and the Presumption to Transform” on Monday, May 5, and “The Obscurity of Influences: Ludwig Wittgenstein and Liberal Education” on Tuesday, May 6. Both lectures will be at 7:30 p.m. in Jonasson Hall, lower level of Melrose Hall. The lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2760.

SESQUICENTENNIAL: Dedications, song contests and historic tours of Linfield College are among the activities planned for a campus and community celebration Friday, May 9, of the 150th anniversary of the chartering of Linfield College.
